 HONOR FLIGHT PILGRIMAGE

On the morning of April 17, 2009, 19 “American’s Greatest Generation” WWII Veterans, their motor home drivers and Escorts assembled at VFW Post 8673 to begin their journey to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorial dedicated in their honor. 17 gentlemen and 2 ladies made up the group and 2 of the Veterans served not only in WWII but also the Korean War and the Viet Nam War. All arrangements were made by the Honor Flight Organization.  Post Commander Paul Fultz and Post volunteers served a hearty breakfast to the group and afterward were given an inspirational send off by Honor Flight founder Earl Morse. Mr. Morse told all in attendance that these and millions of other Veterans have given their country a signed blank check good for up to and including their lives.  Mr. Morse also advised that there was not one cent of charge for these Veterans for the entire trip. All expenses were donated by the Honor Flight Program, motor home drivers and escorts.  The motorcade was escorted by the Ohio Highway Patrol and 5 Chillicothe AMVETS Motorcycle Riders.  The AMVETS Riders were going to escort the caravan all the way to the Ohio border. It should also be noted that 2 of the motorcycle rider’s sons gave the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq. The group will return to VFW Post 8673 at approximately 6:30 PM Sunday April 19th.

Danny Beach, AMVETS Riders Department of Ohio President, visited Sew Much Comfort and learned about the adaptive clothing the charitable organization makes and provides free of charge to our wounded and injured Veterans across the Nation.
Danny has chosen Sew Much Comfort as his project this year and hopes to not only raise funds, but also raise awareness of the organization and the work that they do to help our service members. All of the adaptive clothing provided to the wounded is new and free of charge. The organization relies on grants, small corporate donations, and the American people to make sure that they have the monetary resources needed to continue the mission of giving our service members something more than a drafty hospital gown to recuperate in.
